A programmatic arm of ZIHT

Healing the Planet for World Peace

The essence of this arm of ZIHT is to heal Planet Earth and, as a result of that process of healing, to attain world peace everywhere.

In Tibetan, Tara means “live planet” — a live and conscious entity, not a ‘thing.’ In some languages, Tara also means “the place where the greatest leaders meet.”

To heal the planet, a major effort is made to understand, use and disseminate the teachings and practices of the world’s spiritual schools — including Engaged Buddhism, the social dimensions of the Buddha’s teachings. “Tara” embodies the feminine, the stars, the seas, right effort, proper ethics, right concentration, the tantric manifestation of life, the most relevant wisdom, and the crossing over — dimensions to be self-realized by the Foundation.

Planet Tara Foundation is totally integrated into the Zambuling Institute for Human Transformation, at the country and worldwide levels. The two share a common mission, particularly with regard to the role that human transformation plays in healing the planet.

Five systems in need of healing

Why the planet needs healing, now

The natural system

Collapsing via climate change, global warming, biodiversity depletion, water and air pollution, and desertification.

The economic system

Weakened by globalization’s concentration of wealth, instability and uncertainty, without meeting the promises of global growth.

The political & institutional system

Signs of great deterioration in participatory democracy at the national and global level, including a growing democratic deficit at the UN, World Bank, IMF and WTO.

The corporate system

A defined role in today’s pollution and over-exploitation of natural resources — and an indispensable role in changing course.

The human system

From family to neighborhood to nation, increasingly put into question by discrimination, social disintegration and the loss of shared values.

The time is now

For the benefit of present and future generations — of all human beings, all sentient beings, and the entirety of nature.
